It is a very common situation, especially among visitors to Barcelona: four friends who want to spend the afternoon together and assume it works like any other venue. In a private association it does not, and knowing that in advance avoids the awkward moment at the entrance.
The rule that changes everything
Membership is personal and individual. There is no group registration, no collective booking, and no arrangement where one person gets in and brings the others along.
Every person in the group has to:
- Complete their own registration, separately.
- Present their own photo ID.
- Meet the minimum age the club requires.
- Accept the association rules.
This is not added bureaucracy: it is what sustains the private character of the space. A club where one person could bring in an undefined group would stop being, in practice, a members association.
The most common mistake
One person sorts out membership and all four turn up. The predictable result is one person going in and three waiting on the street.
The sensible way round is the opposite: everyone handles their own registration in advance, then you simply meet up with it already done. The same effort, spread out, with nobody stuck at the door.
If you are travelling
It is worth doing before arriving in Barcelona rather than on the day. When a group has a tight itinerary, leaving the paperwork to the last minute is usually what ruins the plan.
What there is to do once inside
The space is designed precisely for groups who want to stay a while. There are pool tables, board games and sport on screen — football, NFL and Formula 1 — which is what gives a group something to do beyond sitting and talking.
The club is also pet friendly, so someone’s pet is not a problem.
Hours and location
Grasshopper Weed Club is at Carrer de Calàbria, 29, in Sant Antoni (Eixample), open 12:00 to 23:00, seven days a week. The wide window helps when several people’s availability has to line up.
How to find us has the address, metro and map to share with the group.
The framework, briefly
This is a private non-profit association, not a point of sale to the public. Access is members only, sale is prohibited outside the association framework, and consumption in public spaces is prohibited in Barcelona.
Full conditions are in the frequently asked questions, and each person can apply at become a member.
